Mobile to contribute $400 billion to India’s GDP by 2020

The GSMA released an in-depth analysis of the socio-economic impact of the mobile industry in India. The report, “Mobile Economy India 2013”, developed by the GSMA in collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group, reveals that in 2012, the mobile ecosystem generated approximately 5.3 per cent of GDP for India, directly supported 730,000 jobs and an additional two millionjobs when points of sale and distributors are included. The report further predicts that by 2020, mobile will contribute almost US $400 billion to India’s GDP, create 4.1 million additional jobs and invest US $9 billion in India’s infrastructure, with US $34 billion contributed to public funding.

IT triggers Revenue and Job Growth in SMEs in India

Tech-savvy small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) created more new jobs and drove more revenue gains over the past three years than SMEs using little technology, according to new research commissioned by Microsoft Corp. and independently conducted by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a global management consulting firm and a leading adviser on business strategy.  The BCG report, Ahead of the Curve: Lessons on Technology and Growth from Small Business Leaders, found if more SMEs in India adopted the latest IT tools there is potential for SME revenue to grow by $56 billion and create 1.1 million new jobs.
