Akamai Technologies released a new cybersecurity threat advisory. The advisory alerts the security community, device vendors, Internet service providers and enterprises to the risk of massive distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks involving Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) devices. The advisory is available for download from Prolexic (now part of Akamai) atwww.prolexic.com/ssdp.
PLXsert has observed the use of a new reflection and amplification DDoS attack that deliberately misuses communications protocols that come enabled on millions of home and office devices, including routers, media servers, web cams, smart TVs and printers. The protocols allow devices to discover each other on a network, establish communication and coordinate activities. DDoS attackers have been abusing these protocols on Internet-exposed devices to launch attacks that generate floods of traffic and cause website and network outages at enterprise targets.

Akamai Technologies announced a strategic partnership with Sify Technologies Limited (NASDAQ: SIFY), a leader in Managed Enterprise, Network, IT and Software services in India with global delivery capabilities. This partnership will enable Sify Technologies to offer Akamai’s global expertise and solutions in Web acceleration and applications delivery to its Enterprise customers across India.
The collaboration is intended to help Enterprises, especially those in the BFSI, ITeS and manufacturing verticals to enhance cloud adoption for their business and functional applications. By mitigating the complexities of Internet, Enterprises will be able to enhance user experience for their global employee, customer and partner bases while providing a comprehensive and highly secure platform for their online applications.

Akamai Technologies and Prolexic Technologies announced that the two companies have signed a definitive agreement for Akamai to acquire Prolexic, a provider of cloud-based security solutions for protecting data centers and enterprise IP applications from distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. 

Akamai Technologies announced plans for future integration of Akamai Unified Performance technology into the Cisco ISR-AX series of routers.

Both companies intend to co-develop enterprise network offerings, aimed at delivering the world's first enterprise WAN and Internet optimization solution to provide a secure, high-quality end user experience for both public and private cloud applications to all remote offices.
