Pacnet Upgrades Trans-Pacific Submarine Cable with Ciena

Ciena Corporation and Pacnet announced the completion of an upgrade to the company’s trans-Pacific link connecting the U.S. West Coast to Japan. Faced with an exploding market for bandwidth-intensive applications and data center services, Pacnet expanded its network to offer a suite of high-capacity OTN and Ethernet services to meet customer demand while reducing cost-per-bit. In addition, the enhanced programmable 100G network solution allows for bandwidth agility to deliver scalable capacity that is configurable by both enterprise and carrier customers for a high-performance and cloud-ready network.

Southern Cross to add another Terabit using Ciena 100G

Hard on the heels of the successful implementation of Ciena’s 100Gb/s solution across its 30,000km network in July 2013, Southern Cross Cable Network has stepped up again, to announce today that it will use the Ciena WaveLogic 3 platform to add an additional 500Gb/s to both cables by July 2014.

Southern Cross President and CEO, Fiona Beck says, “The continued expansion of our network using the best 100G technology available underpins our strategy to support the development of high-speed broadband in Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Fiji.”

Reliance Globalcom Upgrades Trans-Atlantic Submarine Network

Reliance Globalcom andCienaCorporation  have upgraded Reliance Globalcom’s FA-1 North submarine cable system with 100G wavelengths. With Ciena’sconverged packet opticalandGeoMeshsolutions, Reliance Globalcom can now deliver high-speed, low latency OTN and 100GbE client services between London and New York with greater capacity to meet soaring bandwidth demand. With an initial total lit capacity of 400Gbs, this upgrade compliments Reliance Globalcom’sdeploymentof Ciena’s GeoMesh technology on its FA-1 South submarine network that links New York to Paris, allowing the provider to offer additional capacity on two diverse routes across the Atlantic.

Ciena to Accelerate Deployment of 10 Gigabit Ethernet Services

Ciena Corporation has announced new packet networking solutions designed to help network operators accelerate the adoption of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) services by changing the economics of metro packet aggregation. Driven by increased capacity requirements to provide everything from mobile data services and backhaul to enterprise data and cloud services - including dynamic bandwidth on-demand - today’s operators are seeking scalable, cost-effective aggregation and service delivery at the network edge. With Ciena’s new 5160 and 5142 Service Aggregation Switches, operators and large enterprises can now deploy robust, small form-factor platforms that enable efficient delivery and aggregation of large quantities of data at speeds of 1GbE to 10GbE while meeting increasingly stringent SLAs.
