The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas provided a glimpse of new technology and innovation to come during the rest of the year. There were more evolution than revolution to this year’s event, with many companies launching “me-too” or upgraded versions of existing products rather than breakthrough concepts. India is one of the fastest growing SMB markets worldwide on Twitter

India has a flourishing entrepreneurial culture with over 51 million registered SMBs according to a Zinnov market research report in January 2015. Today, these small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) benefit in multiple ways with an active presence on social media, including Twitter. In September 2015, Twitter opened up its self-service ad platform to India, and 200 other countries and territories around the world, to encourage the growth of SMBs. The purpose? To help SMBs achieve their business goals by using Twitter’s diverse targeting features to reach millions of Twitter users - that too on a budget of their choice.

Hike Messenger Crosses 100 Million Users and 40 Billion Messages Per Month

Hike Messenger crossed the 100 million user mark in just 3 months after crossing 70 million users in October 2015. Also, Hike is now logging a monthly messaging volume of 40 billion messages, having doubled on messaging in a span of 5 months (from 20 billion messages per month logged in August 2015). Users are spending over 120 minutes per week on Hike.

LeEco launches superphones-Le Max & Le1S

LeEco (formerly known as Letv worldwide) entered India by holding an extravaganza official launch event in Gurgaon on January 20th, 2015. This 1,000-guest event, which was witnessed by nearly 500 media people. Facebook also provided online live broadcast of the grand event reaching a historical audience number of close to 100 million. Flipkart continues to dominate mobile commerce in India

Flipkart continues its dominance of mobile commerce in India with 47% of share of visits among the major shopping apps in India, according to December 2015 data by analytics firm SimilarWeb. Myntra occupies the second position with over 16% share of visits. The combined traffic share of Flipkart and Myntra stands at an overwhelming 63%. Amazon stands at the third position with 15.86% followed by Snapdeal with 13.84%.

IBM and Bank Tech India Payments’ $40mn strategic relationship to improve financial inclusion for India’s rural population

Finance Minister kick-started PM Modi's Ambitious Start-Up India Mission

Media-Tech startup ZAPR raises funding from Flipkart, Saavn, Micromax and Mu Sigma cofounders

Bangalore based media-tech startup, ZAPR, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding led by Flipkart, with participation from Saavn, Micromax and Mu Sigma cofounders - Dhiraj Rajaram and Ambiga Dhiraj. This round also saw participation from existing investors - Dinesh Agarwal, Samir Bangara, Sanjay Nath and Arihant Patni. Funds raised will be primarily used to expand on the company’s product portfolio for the media & advertising industry as well as to scale up the technology team.

Survey: Mobile Investments Are Paying Off

Red Hat announced results from a recent mobile measurement survey, which revealed that 74 percent of respondents whose organizations use key performance indicators (KPIs) to some extent to measure mobile application success are achieving positive return on investment (ROI), demonstrating that prior investments in mobile have paid off. Red Hat’s mobile measurement survey revealed that 85 percent of organizations are using KPIs to measure mobile app success, while nine percent use other means and the remainder are not measuring mobile success at all.

Worldwide Semiconductor Revenue Declined 1.9 Percent in 2015

Worldwide semiconductor revenue totaled $333.7 billion in 2015, a 1.9 percent decrease from 2014 revenue of $340.3 billion, according to preliminary results by Gartner, Inc. The top 25 semiconductor vendors' combined revenue increased 0.2 percent, which was more than the overall industry's growth. The top 25 vendors accounted for 73.2 percent of total market revenue, up from 71.7 percent in 2014.

Mobile phone user base in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) is second only to that in Asia-Pacific, with “just over 606 million people in this region having at least one mobile phone, and the total will pass 789 million in 2019”, according to a report released by eMarketer, the independent market research company, that conducted the survey on digital trends in tandem with Starcom Mediavest Group (SMG). Out of the total mobile users, the number of smartphone users in MEA was forecast to be around 106 million at the end of 2015.
