Trend Micro, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, had their global executive Kevin Simzer, EVP, Sales & Marketing in India recently, stressing on how APAC tends to be a lead adopter around next generation projects focused on Cloud, Virtualization and Container related technologies. In a total addressable market size of $15 billion, he opined that IOT is here to stay for the next decade, and Hybrid Cloud security was seen as one of the strongest growth areas in India and around the APAC region. Another area which is increasingly come into the fore is SOC (Security Operations Centre), and what customers are doing from an incident response standpoint.
“India market in particular is very technology savvy. We are going to take big initiatives largely driven in India partnering with big system integrators (SI’s) who happen to be champions. VMware Transforms Security for Apps Running on vSphere-Based Virtualized and Cloud Environments

At VMworld 2017, VMware announced its breakthrough solution for securing applications running on virtualized or cloud environments – VMware AppDefense. This new security solution leverages the virtual infrastructure to monitor running applications against their intended state, and can detect and automate response to attacks that attempt to manipulate those applications. Additionally, integrations with third-party solutions will enable a partner ecosystem to leverage VMware’s AppDefense unique application visibility and response orchestration.
“The growing frequency and cost of security incidents points to a fundamental flaw in security models that focus solely on chasing threats,” said Tom Corn, senior vice president, security products at VMware. “AppDefense delivers an intent-based security model that focuses on what the applications should do – the known good – rather than what the attackers do – the known bad. We believe it will do for compute, what VMware NSX and micro-segmentati…

GDP growth trends lower in Q1 due to pre-GST jitters: Angel Broking

By: Mayuresh Joshi (Fund Manager, Angel Broking):
GDP growth for the first quarter ended June 2017 came in at 5.7%, while the GVA grew at 5.6%. Gross Value Added (GVA) represents GDP growth without the impact of indirect taxes and subsidies, giving a better picture of actual economic activity. GVA growth of 5.6% is sharply lower than estimates which pegged the Q1 growth closer to 6.5% and full year GDP estimates for 2017-18 closer to 7.5%. The pressure on economic growth apparently came from the lag effect of demonetization and a slowdown in production ahead of the GST implementation on July 01st as manufacturers focused on offloading inventories.
Among the key sectoral components, agriculture showed a growth of 2.3% in the first quarter compared to 2.5% in the corresponding quarter last year. Manufacturing fell sharply in the quarter from 10.7% to 1.2% with the predominant pressure coming from the private sector SME segment. Even within the service sector the only segments that impro…

Pointing out that primary responsibility of making laws and policies rests with the Parliament, the Minister said “We are being authorised by the sovereign people of this nation, we have primary responsibility to frame laws.”
“So all this scenario in which we live, we must understand that there are fundamental rights but equally there are fundamental duties,” he added.
Mr Rijiju also said that there is a huge gap in India’s capability and capacity when it comes cyber warfare.
“During the briefings and understanding of how prepared we a…

Juniper Networks Introduces Contrail Security to Help Enterprises Protect Applications in Any Cloud

Juniper Networks announced Juniper® Contrail Security, a new security and microsegmentation solution specifically designed to allow enterprises and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) cloud providers to protect applications running in multiple cloud environments.
Organizations are building and deploying cloud-native applications across public and private clouds to realize the benefits of scale, flexibility and agility. As these applications scale, their components are distributed across multiple heterogeneous clouds, which can also inadvertently distribute vulnerabilities and increase the risk of a business-impacting security breach. To further complicate matters, the perimeter of cloud environments is blurred, rendering perimeter-based policies ineffective in preventing the lateral spread of threats and creating the need for agile enforcement points that require up-to-date policies. Security administrators are also burdened with having to manually create and manage myriad security policies…

Ixia Launches New LTE Test Solution for Cellular IoT

Ixia, a provider of network testing, visibility, and security solutions, \announced IxLoad-Wireless, a high-performance Long Term Evolution (LTE) test solution for cellular IoT enhanced Machine-Type Communication(eMTC) and Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) technologies.  These technologies are new 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)-defined and will help manage the density expected with IoT and lay the foundation for 5G.
Cellular IoT provides wireless communications for devices and applications that need low-power and wide-range communication connectivity, and have infrequent data transmission. A low volume of such devices would have a minimal impact on today’s LTE networks. However, according to Ericsson’s Internet of Things Forecast, 70 percent of wide-area IoT devices will use cellular technology in 2022, and the number of cellular IoT devices will surpass mobile phones in 2018.
Setting the Stage for 5G
To address this, the 3GPP consortium now requires that standards being developed f…
