Worldwide Sales of Smartphones Returned to Growth in First Quarter of 2018

Global sales of smartphones to end users returned to growth in the first quarter of 2018 with a 1.3 percent increase over the same period in 2017, according to Gartner, Inc. Compared to the first quarter of 2017 sales of total mobile phones stalled and reached 455 million units in the first quarter of 2018.
Nearly 384 million smartphones were sold in the first quarter of 2018, representing 84 percent of total mobile phones sold (see Table 1). "Demand for premium and high-end smartphones continued to suffer due to marginal incremental benefits during upgrade," said Anshul Gupta, research director at Gartner. "Demand for entry-level smartphones (sub-$100) and low midtier smartphones (sub-$150) improved due to better-quality models."
Continued weakness in Greater China's mobile phone market also limited growth potential for the top global brands, including Chinese brands such as OPPO and Vivo, with over 70 percent of their sales coming from Greater China.

Employee retention and improving quality of work key areas of focus for organisations in India

Half (50%) of companies across India are expecting their workforce to grow by an incredible 6% or more this year, according to the inaugural India Employment Screening Benchmark Report from HireRight, a leading provider of global background checks.
The India spotlight is based on HireRight’s annual Employment Screening Benchmark Report, the largest, most comprehensive survey of its kind in the industry. Nearly 6,000 human resource professionals were surveyed globally this year.
It revealed that overall, an incredible 85% of organisations in India were looking to bolster their teams with increased hiring – a sentiment considerably more bullish than the wider APAC region, at 77%. Interestingly, the survey also revealed a significant decrease in organisational dependency on contingent workers compared to last year’s findings – almost half (43%) of companies had less than 10% of their workforce made up of non-employees. Nokia and Subisu to deploy fiber-to-the-home network across Nepal

Nokia and Subisu, a leading Internet Service Provider in Nepal, will deploy a Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) network across Province 2 of Nepal to provide enhanced, reliable and quality services to their subscribers. SBI CARD collaborates with NSDC to support Skill India mission

SBI Card in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and NSDF formally launched their second skill development project today in the national capital region. Earlier this year, SBI Card had signed an MoU with NSDC for a project to train 1000 candidates in sectors such as BFSI, Retail and Green Jobs. The project has been formally launched today at Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra located on Mandir Marg, New Delhi. This training center will be dedicated to training 100 Solar PV installers. Candidates have already been mobilized from Karol Bagh, Sanjay Camp, Razabazar, Paharganj, Bapu Dham in Delhi for the program.
