TSSC signs tripartite MoU with TiE & IESA, for setting up a Skill Centre (COE) in IoT sector


Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) &  India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA) has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a Skill Centre (COE) for skill development in Internet of Things (IoT) sector in Bangalore.

The essence of the MoU/CoE is to provide world class skills and certified manpower to support roll-out, proliferation and maintenance of the IoT deployments, with a focus on semi-urban and rural segments.

 IoT related vocational training courses will be provided at the Skill Centre. The MoU was signed between Lt Gen (Retd) Dr SP Kochhar, CEO, Telecom Sector Skill Council, Mr Krishnamoorthy Krishnan, Chairman IESA and Mr Naganand Doraswamy, President TiE

This MoU would help compliment each other’s technical capabilities and industry reach, to achieve a common goal of skilling India in the IoT domain. TiE, IESA and TSSC training partners will synergize their efforts and conduct approved courses, resulting in improved proliferation of IoT courses in India.

“The MoU is path breaking and unique in consolidating the efforts and resources of three major entities - TSSC, TiE & IESA in bringing the benefits of IoT training to the youth, with a view to increase their employability prospects.

IoT, as a technology, holds a huge potential and promises, with applicability across sectors. Country’s vision of Smart Cities, Digital India, Connected eco-systems and Assisted decision making centered around big-data and analytics, has strong links to IoT solutions/deployments.

Digital Innovation is the main driver of economic growth around the world. Digital economy has converged its multi-disciplinary facets of IT, Hardware, Big Data and Connectivity with Internet of Things (IoT), enabling a much more agile, efficient and cost effective service offering than in the past with partnerships and ecosystems.

Lt Gen (Retd) Dr SP Kochhar, CEO, Telecom Sector Skill Council  said “Telecom Sector Skill Council’s (TSSC) main aim for the next 5 years is to train approximately 8.67 million people which will be beneficial for the telecom industry’s growth. We are outreaching to rural areas also by Online and Offline courses through various Training centres.”

This leapfrog into Smart cities, Connected cars, Artificial Intelligence, Smart agriculture, eMedicine, eEducation and eGovernance requires home grown technologies and solutions, sophisticated skilling and passionate human resources" said Vipin Tyagi, Director C- DOT.

“This industry ready workforce is aligned to the latest modules for applications from a simple machine to the most complex of technological processes. With the increasing demand for skilled workforce and changing trends in telecom, in both industrial and in general day to day life, there is a huge requirement across sectors which needs to be addressed at the earliest,” Added Lt Gen (Retd) Dr SP Kochhar.

IoT, as a technology holds a huge potential in semi-urban and rural sectors, and can potentially make or break various governance initiatives. Real time monitoring of parameters in rural areas related to reservoir levels, power, weather, sanitation etc is all possible through IoT and can provide valuable and timely insights to initiate corrective/preventive actions. IoT also has enabling potential in the field of Education, Health and Financial proliferation to ensure an all-inclusive economy. 

Telecom plays an integral role in success of such initiatives and provides for essential connectivity over mobile Networks and technology. IoT specific networks like LoRa are also gaining traction and roll-outs. This, along with the reach provided by NOFN, call for availability of skilled manpower at semi-urban & rural locations to install, support and maintain IoT installations and networks. TSSC and IESA are committed to this cause and the CoE is envisaged as a prudent vehicle to achieve this aim. This synergy between the two players is expected to provide a clear and implementable strategy/road-map towards availability of skilled manpower to support IoT.
