BusIndia.com, an online bus ticketing system launched by. Oscar Fernandes

Union Cabinet Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri. Oscar Fernandes today officially launched Busindia.com, the integrated bus ticket portal. Busindia.com portal brings together bus transport operators across the country under a single window, thus facilitating passengers to plan their bus travel across Indian cities with ease. BusIndia.com enables passengers to do trip booking and hotel booking, providing a full itinerary experience for the first time in Indian bus booking. Radiant Info Systems Ltd. (Radiant Info), the Bangalore based technology solutions company, has developed Busindia.com in partnership with the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT). Radiant Info, is also credited with the launch of India’s first online bus ticket reservation system in 2006 for Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).

Gartner: Worldwide Video Game Market to Total $93 Billion in 2013

The worldwide video game marketplace, which includes video game console hardware and software, online, mobile and PC games, will reach $93 billion in 2013, up from $79 billion in 2012, according to Gartner. Driven by strong mobile gaming and video game console and software sales, the market is forecast to reach $111 billion by 2015.

SafeNet launches Complete Encryption Solution on AWS Marketplace

SafeNet announced key enhancements to SafeNet ProtectV that allow customers to encrypt Amazon EC2 workloads and maintain full ownership of encryption keys, with no need for on-premise hardware. SafeNet ProtectV with Virtual KeySecure is now available to run entirely on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure and is compatible with AWS CloudHSM, allowing customers to retain full ownership of their encryption keys while deploying entirely in the cloud.  Through the AWS Marketplace, SafeNet ProtectV and Virtual KeySecure are available in a pay-as-you-go pricing model similar to AWS cloud services.

Tata Elxsi and Algotochip partner to provide rapid SoC solutions

MongoDB Certification Now Available for Developers and DBAs

MongoDB announced a certification program for developers and DBAs. Indian Businesses Turn to IT to Fuel Growth

VMware announced the findings of its 4th annual VMware Cloud Index, a study that was conducted by Forrester Research across 12 Asia Pacific countries. Indian Broadcast Equipment Market to grow at 9 Percent by 2017: A report

On the occasion, Vidya Nath, Research Director, ICT Practice, Frost & Sullivan, presented findings from Frost & Sullivan’s soon to be released report on the Indian Broadcast Equipment Industry Outlook. The market is likely to grow from nearly US $100 million in 2013 to US $168 million in 2017 at a CAGR of 9 percent, with a significant interest in HD cameras and video servers. She said, “India is highly fragmented by content type, region, and size of broadcasters. About 25 percent have a broadcast equipment budget of over US $160, 000 (INR 1 Crore), while nearly 40 percent plan to spend less than US $41, 000 (INR 25 lakh) this year. It is true that sometimes equipment purchase outlays are cyclical and typically, significant purchasing cycles are repeated every three to four years. Yet, Frost & Sullivan believes there will be little change in this trend in the short term.”

A survey reveals older does not mean wiser

McAfee has released findings from the company’s first survey dedicated to uncovering the online habits and behaviors of individuals ages 50-75. The study, “Fifty Plus Booms Online” indicates that the 50+ demographic is spending a great deal of time online these days (an average of five hours a day), instilling confidence in their attitude toward technology. Some 88% of participants say they consider themselves equally or more tech-savvy compared to others their age. Despite this proclaimed comfort level—or maybe because of it— Baby Boomer adults are socially engaging online, exposing themselves to social media reproach and dangerous security risks, including sharing personal information with strangers.

Mobile to contribute $400 billion to India’s GDP by 2020

The GSMA released an in-depth analysis of the socio-economic impact of the mobile industry in India. The report, “Mobile Economy India 2013”, developed by the GSMA in collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group, reveals that in 2012, the mobile ecosystem generated approximately 5.3 per cent of GDP for India, directly supported 730,000 jobs and an additional two millionjobs when points of sale and distributors are included. The report further predicts that by 2020, mobile will contribute almost US $400 billion to India’s GDP, create 4.1 million additional jobs and invest US $9 billion in India’s infrastructure, with US $34 billion contributed to public funding.

Operators often increase mobile broadband network capacity by deploying FDD-LTE and TD-LTE technologies on multiple frequency bands. With NSN’s LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation they can create larger bandwidths for subscribers by aggregating spectrum resources. NSN carrier aggregation works on paired spectrum allocations (FDD-LTE) and on unpaired spectrum allocations (TD-LTE). For example, on a 40MHz allocation of paired spectrum, operators can offer downlink data rates of up to 300Mbps.

Cloud Traffic to Dominate Data Centers: Study

In the third annual Cisco Global Cloud Index (2012 – 2017)issued today, Cisco forecasts that global cloud traffic, the fastest growing component of data center traffic, is expected to grow 4.5-fold – a 35 percent combined annual growth rate (CAGR) – from 1.2 zettabytes of annual traffic in 2012 to 5.3 zettabytes by 2017. Overall global data center traffic will grow threefold and reach a total of 7.7 zettabytes annually by 2017.

White Label ATMs come to India

Recently India witnessed the launch of white label ATMs (WLAs) ATMs in the country. WLAs are owned and operated by private non-banking companies.  Contrary to the prevalent ATM scenario wherein the ATMs serve as an extended delivery channel for a bank and display respective banks branding, white label ATMs (WLAs) do not display any bank’s branding, as they are owned, set and operated by Private non-banking entities, hence they are termed as White Label ATMs. However WLA ATMs are similar to Bank ATMs. Currently WLAs are seen in global markets like US, Canada and are widely used as an alternative to Bank ATMs.
